The Senses
Communication with the spirit world can take many forms and this can include receiving information visually (clairvoyance), audibly (clairaudience) or by feeling and knowing (clairsentience/claircognizant), or a combination of these things. It is also possible to sense spirit presence by taste (clairgustance) and smell (clairscentrient or clairalience).
Most working mediums will use a combination of these abilities when linking with spirit although they may be more developed in any of these particular areas. These abilities will also be apparent when working on the psychic level. Understanding which of these abilities are your most natural, or whether you have equal abilities for each, can dramatically speed up your own personal development. For example, becoming frustrated by not 'seeing' spirit when this is not your natural ability can be turned around completely when you realise that either 'hearing' or 'feeling' spirit is far easier.
Clairaudience
What Is It?
The term Clairaudience, means 'clear hearing' and describes psychic hearing abilities. Clairaudient information is received as words or thoughts within the mind, or the minds ear, (see Mental mediumship for more information), although there will be times where these are perceived as audible sounds.
A medium who is Clairaudient will receive information such as Names, Places, words describing illnesses etc. and this can be a very effective form of mediumship. It should be noted however that receiving this information will not be the same, or as clear, as a normal conversation between two physical individuals. Typically, this information will be fragmented with sometimes even just a part of a word or a sentence available and interpretation filling in the rest.
Clairaudient communication will often feel like your own thoughts and can often be confused as the imagination. Practise and validation will help you recognise the difference, however.
Are You Clairaudient?
If music or words are an important part of your life - if you are acutely aware of lyrics, or their meaning within a song - if you get lost within a book - if you are a good communicator, then the chances are that you have good Clairaudient potential/ability.
Clairvoyance
What Is It?
The term Clairvoyance means 'clear seeing' and describes the visual aspects of your psychic abilities. It can be confusing though as it is also used to describe a clairvoyant, or fortune teller and even as a 'catch all' phrase to describe mediums or psychics (e.g. 'An Evening of Clairvoyance').
A medium who is Clairvoyant will receive information in the form of images or pictures, symbols, or will even 'see' words at times. As with the other senses, this information is typically received within the mind rather than externally through the eyes, and the pictures are formed with the 'minds eye'.
Are You Clairvoyant?
If you can close your eyes and visualise something, or relate strongly to images, then it is liekly that you have good clairvoyant abilities/potential.
An example of this may be as follows:
|
· Try closing your eyes for a moment and think of a loved one, or someone close to you
· Form a picture in your mind, see how they look - their expression, what they are wearing
If you can see this picture within your mind then you are getting an appreciation of how most Clairvoyant mediums work |
Clairsentience
What Is It?
The term Clairsentience means 'clear feeling' and describes someone who will receive information or a thought and translate it into a feeling. This can also be known as a 'gut feeling' about something, which is an ability that most of us use every day in some capacity.
Someone who is Clairsentient will often 'know' things without consciously understanding why or where it comes from and one of the key things to learn during your development is to trust your feelings, or hunches, without hesitation. They will also be able to 'feel', or understand, the character and health issues surrounding a spirit presence or energy of a person.
With Clairsentience it is possible to 'know' an incredible amount of detail. This is a very powerful form of mediumship
Are You Clairsentient?
If
Clairsentience - Prophetic (1) This is a person who will pick up a thought and just knows it. This person is sensitive to precognition and has hunches, dreams and knowings and this person usually deals with the future or present and how it will affect another. If you were to meet an enlightened Prophetic you would be able to get some information about your 'line of probability', tomorrow is not set in time remember. This could be a person who has a dream about something and that dream turns out to happen in reality. They have the ability of prediction because they 'just know' and can tune into and understand their hunches.
Clairsentience - Feeler (2) This is a person who will pick up a thought and transform it immediately into a feeling. This persons life can revolve around how it feels to them. Their sense of touch is well-developed and they have the ability to know people by feeling what they feel. After enlightenment, this is someone would have the ability to practice psychometry. The ability to put something belonging to someone in their hand and read the energy. Depending on their other gifts, they could tell the past, present or future from the energy. They have the ability to feel how others feel but only on the emotional level. They will be able to not only empathise but experience their pain, loss, grief etc. For instance, if they were to channel energy from a persons past life they would experience the pain and hurt that that soul experienced in that past lifetime.
Your Intuitive Gifts: Clairsentience
Intuition is a broad term that basically covers all of the psychic abilities we have as human beings. Over the next few paragraphs, I'll talk about specific gifts like clairsentience, telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, and healing, and how you may be using them even now without realizing it!
We'll start with the most commonly used ability: clairsentience.
Clairsentience means "clear feeling" in French. When you get a "gut feeling" about something, you are using your clairsentience. What you're doing is using your second chakra, the spleen center (located just below the belly button), to sense things on an emotional level. So your clairsentience can pick up what other people are feeling, and it can also give you a great barometer for when something is wrong.
For instance, I was traveling on a flight to Phoenix one day and talking with my seatmate, a former flight attendant. She had been on an international run for many months, traveling from San Francisco in a loop with overnight stopovers in several destinations, then back to San Francisco again.
One night at one of the stopovers, she became sick to her stomach and decided that she wasn't up to continuing on the flight the next morning. In fact, she decided that she was going to quit flying, period--which she had been thinking about doing for some months. Her crewmates continued on without her, and the plane crashed--killing everyone on board.
This woman's clairsentience saved her life-in effect she had such a strong "gut feeling" that it made her sick and unable to fly.
Clairsentience often works with another ability called precognition, as in the case above. Precognition is the ability to know what is going to happen in advance. When combined with clairsentience, you may not get specific information like date, place or time, but you will get a general feeling of foreboding, and an overwhelming desire to change course.
sam was taking group riding lessons. She had attended about seven or eight lessons and felt pretty comfortable on her horse. But one morning, she kept feeling as though she was going to fall. The feeling was so strong that she started to get extremely anxious, which had never happened before. She decided to stop early, thinking that if she continued, her fear might be transmitted to the horse and something bad would happen. She told her instructor what was happening, and then returned to the barn. After tending to her horse, Trish returned to the arena to see the rest of the lesson
Six faces were watching her with amazement. "You must be psychic," the instructor exclaimed. Not five minutes after she left the arena, another horse stumbled and fell - one of the most steady and surefooted in the stable. His rider sprained her ankle. sam had felt that a fall was going to happen, but she didn't have the specifics of WHO was going to fall.
What many people don't realize is that clairsentience can also be responsible for overwhelming emotions. Because clairsentience is about feeling emotion, you can experience the emotions of someone else and think they are your own.
In one of my classes, a student came in feeling awful. It turned out that her clairsentience was turned on so high that she was acting like a sponge, taking in the emotions of everyone throughout the day at work. By the time she got to class, she was overwhelmed. I showed her how to release the excess emotion and turn her clairsentience down. Within a few minutes, she was herself again, feeling relaxed and happy.
This happens a lot in relationships. It's very easy to take on the emotions and energy of the other person through that second chakra. When a relationship ends and you feel overwhelming grief (even though you know in your head that he wasn't the right guy for you), you might just be experiencing the release of his emotional energy that you took on during the relationship and the breakup.
The key to knowing when what you feel is really a clairsentient experience rather than your own feelings is whether or not you can control the emotion. If you can handle it, if it feels appropriate and manageable, it is generally yours. If it is overwhelming or there doesn't seem to be a reason why you might feel it, or if someone you were just with was experiencing the same thing, it may be a clairsentient experience.
Working with Your Clairsentience
When you get a strong gut feeling, stop and pay attention. Ask yourself questions like these to clarify your feelings:
If I'm picking up something about another person, who would that be?
If there happened to be something going on with that person, what could it be?
If I'm picking up on something around me, what might it be?
You'll notice the "if" format of the questions. This helps you get around the analytical part of your brain that may try to short-circuit your intuition ("this is silly," etc
This serves two purposes. First, you have better information to make your decisions. Second, you can handle and release emotion more easily if you know where it is coming from.
Other Senses
There are other senses aside from the three main senses (clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience). These tend to be less well known but most people will have a combination of these along with the others mentioned.
Other senses include the following:

Clairgustance |
: the psychic sense of taste |

: the psychic sensation of smell | |
